Accidents at sea
Accidents at sea are often covered by international convention. Therefore although you may be injured on a British ship, British law may not necessarily apply.
It can be different if you are travelling on a package holiday (see Package Holidays). International conventions extend to embarkation and disembarkation and part of travelling at sea. In a personal injury case in the UK one normally has 3 years by which time to issue Court proceedings.
If the international convention applies to an accident at sea then it will be only 2 years. This is an important difference. International conventions normally have precedence over national law. It may be different if you are actually working at sea as health & safety legislation may be more appropriate.
