He was exposed to asbestos whilst a contractor in the building of the Eagle Star building in Cheltenham in the 1960s/70s. This is Cheltenham's tallest building. Russell Jones & Walker issued legal proceedings in the Gloucester County Court, then obtained an admission of negligent exposure from the employers insurers. Through negotiation an offer of £200,000 in full settlement of the claim was made and accepted.
A member involved in a road traffic accident was hit from behind. A dispute arose as to who was responsible, the vehicle directly behind, or a third vehicle which collided with that one. Drivers of the second and third car were both adamant that the other was responsible. Driver 2 said that the third driver had shunted him into the rear of the claimant’s car. Driver 3 said that the second driver had already collided with the claimant’s car and that there was no further contact. The claimant was awarded over £2000 in the settlement.
