Sarah Webb, Head of Department

  • Joined RJW in 1983 and became a partner in 1990
  • Specialises in Defamation, Media, Reputation Management, Privacy and Breach of Confidence, Professional Negligence and Commercial Litigation

  • Particular interest in Equine matters and is a member of the Equine lawyers Association

Work
Sarah’s defamation clients are diverse; MP’s, Judges, Solicitors, Public Schools, Private individuals, Chief Constables and Senior Civil Servants. Sarah has successfully made claims against a variety of National and Local publications including BBC and C4.
She has also enjoyed success in defending recent defamation claims brought against the Manchester Evening News and the National Autistic Society.

Sarah has expertise in Internet/ISP defamation and has represented an international business man in respect of  damaging allegations about his company on a French website
Reputation Management is a growing area of Sarah’s practice and recent clients include Chief Constable of Kent and the former Chief whip in the House of Lords (now deceased) 

Sarah has also advised on numerous Breach of Confidence and Privacy matters including a claim against the News of the World.

Media and Legal Contributions
Sarah’s expertise in these areas is recognised by the media and her opinion and analysis of high profile cases is regularly published and broadcast in the national and legal media.  She has written articles on various aspects of Media Law. (link)
She is a member of the Civil Justice Committee and Dept of Constitutional Affairs panel on Defamation Costs.

Education
Sarah lectures for Central law Training on Privacy law and developments and presents for legal network TV

 

Sarah is recommended in the 2008 editions of both The Legal 500 and Chambers.
