James Carlton is a Partner in the Business and Regulatory Investigations Group at Russell Jones & Walker.

Experience

Additionally James has developed an expertise in the areas of health and safety and public inquiry representation having recently acted on behalf of principal witnesses to the BSE, Marchioness and Victoria ClimbiƩ Public Inquiries.

Career

James has acted on behalf of a number of high profile individuals in both criminal and related civil sets of proceedings including Guinness II, Butte Mining plc and Brent Walker. His experience and profile in the conduct of heavyweight proceedings continues to grow, particularly in the areas of SFO, HM Customs & Excise, DTI and specialist CPS prosecutions. At the same time, he has substantial experience in the conduct of criminal defence work generally.

Education

James joined Russell Jones & Walker in 1995. He studied law at Birmingham University, graduating in 1988.

Professional Memberships

James is a professional member of both the London Criminal Courts Association and on the Council of the British Academy of Forensic Scientists.
