Our expertise

We are acknowledged as a leading firm in this area and have represented clients who have either been called as witnesses or have been interested parties in most of the significant public inquiries held in the last 15 years.

Such Inquiries require an ability to assimilate large volumes of evidence and to understand the technical and strategic issues involved.  Although a witness is not directly under investigation, the manner in which Inquiries are conducted often leads those involved to feel as if they are.

Our wide experience not just of this type of Inquiry, but also of large-scale criminal and regulatory investigations, places us in a unique position to be able to address these issues.

See below for details of the following public inquiries that we have been involved in:

  • Bloody Sunday Inquiry
  • BSE
  • Marchioness
  • Stephen Lawrence Inquiry
  • The Scott Inquiry
  • The Shipman Inquiry
  • Victoria Climbie

Bloody Sunday Inquiry

We represented a witness in the Inquiry into the events of 30th January 1972 in Londonderry.

BSE

We acted on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, in relation to the Department of Health's response to emerging knowledge on this subject, and its interaction with other government and scientific bodies regarding research and control.

Marchioness

Our team acted on behalf of the look-out on the Bowbelle providing eye witness accounts of that vessel, its progress through the Thames and the ultimate collision and aftermath.

Stephen Lawrence Inquiry

We aced on behalf of members of the Police Service who appeared as witnesses before Sir William MacPherson and his advisers.

The Scott Inquiry

We represented a number of members of the Civil Service whose actions were examined by the Scott Inquiry into the export of Arms to Iraq.

The Shipman Inquiry

We represented a Police Inspector who conducted the first investigation into allegations that Dr Shipman was killing patients.

These allegations were originally made by a local Doctor in Hyde.  The officer found that there was insufficient evidence to justify further investigations and his inquiry was concluded.

The Shipman Inquiry examined the action of the Inspector and Greater Manchester Police.

Victoria Climbie

Russell Jones & Walker acted on behalf of the CPT officer and their supervising Sergeants in relation to their actions during the period of Victoria Climbie's residence in Haringey that led up to her tragic death.
