Jeremy is the partner in the Defamation Unit responsible for union and institutional clients and their members Joined RJW in 1986 and has been a partner since 1989.

Pre-publication work and Reputation Management is a growing area of Jeremy’s practice, working to prevent damage being done before publication and also advise clients who find themselves the subject of media attention how best to deal with it ; recent cases have included advice to police firearms officers involved in a number of high profile and sensitive public cases on forthcoming media publications, the Senior Police Officer involved in the investigation into the Royal Butlers, the criminal trials and the aftermath.

Jeremy has been successful in numerous libel cases for clients against a range of defendants, including BBC, ITV, C4, Heart FM,Times, Sunday Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Independent,, Daily Mail, Daily Express, Sun, Mirror, Daily Sport, News of the World, Time Out, Harper Collins and a numerous local publications.
Publications
Jeremy wrote ‘A practical Guide to Libel and Slander’ with Lorna Skinner, which was published by Butterworths in 2003.
He is also the Defamation contributor to the Civil Court Service (The Brown Book) published by Jordans
Media and Legal Contributions
Jeremy is recognised as an expert in Defamation and has contributed to both the Legal and National press. He implemented and chaired the committee which drafted the Defamation pre-Action Protocol, he is a member of the Law Society Defamation Reference Group and chaired the Law Society Committee on the implementation of the Defamation Act 1996.
Many of Jeremy’s libel cases have established new law and have been reported in the legal press and journals.
Funding
Jeremy has been heavily involved in developing the use of Conditional Fee Agreements to fund defamation work for use by private individuals and Unions and Institutions. Jeremy is on the panel appointed by the Dept of Constitutional Affairs/Civil Justice Council looking at Conditional Fee Agreements in Defamation.
