Sarah Webb appears on Sky news - twice in three days…
Sky News
19 March 2008
Sarah Webb, Partner and head of the Media & Reputation Management Unit this week made two guest appearances on Sky News. On Monday, Sarah was interviewed on the McCartney’s divorce where she commented on the legal issues involved in publicising family cases. On Wednesday, Sarah was invited onto the Sunrise show with Eammon Holmes where she gave her perspective on the huge libel settlement the McCann’s received from Express Group Newspapers. Highlights of the McCann interview below.
Asked to sum-up the McCann settlement, Sarah said: “This is an unprecedented apology. To have two newspapers from the same group giving front page apologies is quite exceptional. All the other newspapers will now be very careful about the publicity they give this story going forward and no doubt will be looking at the stories they have already published.”
Eammon Holmes then asked Sarah how this settlement would have been reached. Replying , Sarah said: “We don’t know exactly when the letters of claim would have been sent out to Express Newspapers but clearly there have been ongoing negotiations to achieve the front page apology and the level of damages awarded. Express Newspapers realised they were going to be in significant difficulties trying to justify their stories and so it became a damage limitation exercise.”
