Accidents and illness abroad compensation claims

Holiday’s abroad should be enjoyable and carefree but unfortunately accidents and illness do happen when you’re overseas. This can often ruin a holiday that has been planned for a long time.

Claiming compensation for accidents and illness suffered in Europe or further afield can be complicated by time limits set for legal claims in other countries, exclusions of particular types of injury under International Conventions and the difficulty of obtaining evidence for incidents which happened thousands of miles away. Due to these complications, it is essential to obtain legal advice and assistance from lawyers with experience and expertise in legal claims abroad.

What types of accidents and illnesses can I claim for?

The types of accidents and illnesses that are sustained whilst on holiday could be relatively minor, like mild food poisoning, or far more serious, such as head or spinal injuries or even a fatal accident.

Some of the types of accidents or illnesses that can be claimed for include:

  • Road traffic accidents (car, motorbike or scooter crashes) whether you’re a passenger, driver or a pedestrian
  • Boating accidents
  • Cruise ship accidents and illness
  • Gastric illness
  • Food poisoning caused by poor sanitation, food or water
  • Injury whilst taking part in a sporting activity or other recreational activities like diving or other water sports
  • Injury whilst on an excursion
  • Injury whilst on hotel/resort premises, such as a trip, slip or fall round the pool or on slippery or uneven surfaces
  • Injury whilst in your hotel room
  • Natural disaster like a tsunami or earthquake
