Age Discrimination – New Age Dawning?

12 July 2006

Evening Conference and Reception: Wednesday 12 July 2006, 5pm for 5.30 start

Russell Jones & Walker, 80-86 Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1X8NH

Russell Jones & Walker held an evening conference on Age Discrimination which was followed by a reception of refreshments.

From 1 October 2006, the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 come into effect.  The new legislation will, for the first time in the UK, make Age Discrimination in employment and vocational training unlawful.  This is widely believed to be one of the most significant developments in UK employment law since the advent of discrimination legislation.

The conference provided a comprehensive overview of the new laws, with major implications for selection and recruitment, terms and conditions and reward policies, promotions, transfers, dismissals and retirement.

Attendees were officials from UK trade unions.

Senior practitioners from Russell Jones & Walker examined the key areas of the Age Discrimination legislation, providing a clear understanding of the forthcoming changes and the potential legal issues that may arise.  Read the agenda in full.

The conference concluded with a question and answer session, which gave the attendees the opportunity to put their thoughts to our speakers.
