A care assistant who suffered a serious injury to her back as a result of her job has secured a payout of £8,000 from her former employers, it has been revealed.
Margaret Yates, who worked at the Grange Residential Care Home - which is situated on Whinbush Way in the north-east town of Darlington - sustained damage to her back while trying to dress an elderly lady who was immobile.
Along with a colleague, she was lifting the lady off her bed and trying to pull up her undergarments.
"If I'd known how to dress her or any other of the residents properly, or been given access to training, I would have adopted a safer method instead," she stated.
Following the incident, the 58-year-old was left in serious pain and was unable to perform simple domestic tasks for a number of weeks.
Eventually, she was also forced to give up her position at the care home.
