A worker who lost his leg in an accident is suing his employers for up to £300,000, it has been reported.
According to the Essex Echo, Terry Ledger got his leg trapped in a revolving fan while he was dismantling scaffolding at the BP Coryton refinery.
Vange Scaffolding - which offers scaffolding access services to the petrochemical and industrial sectors - is said to have admitted liability for the injury.
The incident occurred in April 2005 when he partly fell through metal caging put around a set of fans.
A high court writ claims that the caging had been damaged prior to the event and fixed using a piece of string.
Mr Ledger also alleges that he has developed major depression, suffers phantom limb pain and can only walk for 15 minutes without experiencing discomfort.
Meanwhile, Kelvin Smith from Vange Scaffolding said the case is now in the hands of the firm's insurers and would make no further comment.
