A woman whose husband was seriously injured in a road accident has secured compensation to help her cover the cost of caring for him at home, it has emerged.
Rachael Yeomans was awarded a lump sum of £1.7 million and will receive £225,000 a year for the rest of her spouse's life.
Her husband, Paul, was riding his motorbike when he was struck by a van which was driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
The 31-year-old sustained brain damage after his heart stopped beating, causing him to experience a shortage of oxygen.
Ms Yeomans will use the lump sum she secured in an out-of-court settlement with insurers Norwich Union - which is part of the international insurance group Aviva - to pay for alterations to the couple's home.
A spokesman for the company said: "These types of incident are very unfortunate. We take them very seriously and deal with them in the most sensitive manner that we can," the Daily Mail reports.
