Whitney Houston granted custody in divorce settlement
Published 11/04/2007
Singer Whitney Houston has won custody of the teenage daughter she had with Bobby Brown, after a ruling from a California judge.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Franz Miller also ruled that the ongoing divorce would become final as of April 24th, after which point Ms Houston will assume sole custody of Bobbi Christina Brown.
In September of last year, Houston initially filed a divorce request, and subsequently asked for a default judgement so as to speed up the process.
Brown's lawyer has indicated that he will appeal against the judge's decision for custody.
News of the finalising of divorce proceedings marked the end of tumultuous 14-year marriage, during which Houston's formerly glittering career stalled.
Over the course the marriage, Houston was twice admitted to rehab for treatment to an addiction to crack cocaine, while Brown was arrested for drugs charges.
Ms Houston scored a raft of hits in the 1970s and '80s including I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
