A Police officer may be set to begin legal proceedings over an email sent by Jersey's children's minister Ben Shenton to cabinet colleagues.
Deputy Police Chief Lenny Harper, who is currently heading an inquiry into child sex abuse on the island, said that the email was a "clear attempt to damage the inquiry", adding he plans to seek legal advice with a view to libel action, the Press Association reports.
The correspondence in question allegedly states: "My wife keeps referring to Lenny Harper as Lenny Henry - I don't think she's far wrong."
It is also said to criticise the investigation, questioning whether bones found are human or animal.
According to Mr Harper, the email is "childish and bizarre" and "unhelpful to the victims".
Earlier this month, police found what could be more human remains near the Jersey children's home at the centre of the investigation.
