A woman who lost her baby after the hospital she was in aborted it without her consent has received compensation and an apology.
Harlow's Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), located in Essex, was made to pay £27,500 to the bereaved woman in July and has now issued an official apology, the Harlow Herald reports.
The incident occurred in 2003 when Teresa Cooper, now aged 40, signed a consent form for an abortion because doctors informed her there were problems with her pregnancy.
On the date of surgery, Ms Cooper hoped to discuss the difficulties with medical staff, who had been unsure as to their cause.
However, doctors sedated her and proceeded with the abortion because she was distressed and in pain.
The PAH have now issued Ms Cooper with a letter saying: "The failure to properly counsel you about your pregnancy, confirm consent and see you preoperatively despite your concern led to unnecessary distress, pain and suffering."
