GP relationship key to healthier workforce

Employers and GPs must work together to build a healthy workforce, according to an expert from Norwich Union Healthcare.
Public policy manager Nadine Middleton has welcomed government plans to tackle stress-related sickness, but says there is still a lot of work to be done.
She said: “Joining up employers with GPs is essential if the government is to make serious headway in building a healthier workforce.
“Work benefits employers, employees and the country so it is welcome news that the government is piloting these measures.
“The current picture of workplace health is confused. Our figures show that only 6% of GPs think employers are doing enough to help rehabilitate their staff to return to work sooner, yet employers believe that GPs are not playing as effective a role as they could. This is a step in the right direction.”
