A gay food company worker has been awarded more than £17,000 by an employment tribunal after he was subjected to homophobic harassment.
Chris Martin, 32, a quality assurance officer at West Yorkshire firm Parkam Foods, left his job after he lodged a complaint about homophobic graffiti on toilet walls that was not taken seriously by managers.
The graffiti specifically used Mr Martin's name and he also claimed to have been the victim of anti-gay taunts by fellow workers.
Managers allegedly treated him like "a piece of dirt" over the humiliating graffiti on the walls of the men's toilets at the factory in Liversedge, the Yorkshire Post reports.
The tribunal ruled that the company had failed to deal correctly with the discrimination and harassment and awarded Mr Martin £10,000 for injury to his feelings, £5,000 for aggravated damages and a number of small "incidental" payments.
