A fine has been dealt to a firm after an accident involving one its workers.
Fruit-packing company Cross and Wells - which has a purpose-built processing plant situated in six acres of land in Sittingbourne - pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches during a recent hearing.
It was ordered to pay a total of £6,422, including costs.
The incident occurred in October 2006 when Magdalena Osuchowska fell from a work platform that in turn fell from the forks of a forklift truck, which was being driven by an unauthorised driver.
As a result of the impact, the employee sustained broken ribs.
"The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has always been available to give advice in relation to health and safety at work. There is simply no excuse for employers to plead ignorance of good health and safety practice," stated HSE inspector David Fussell.
