Father and son fined for dangerous work

Father and son roofers Dean and George Soley have been prosecuted for endangering themselves and others.

Trading as D&G Soley, the pair pleaded guilty to two breaches of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 after they had ignored the "obviously high level of danger to themselves and others".

In April of this year three people had been observed working on the roof of a commercial building in Kidderminster and standing close to an unprotected drop while throwing large items of debris into an unprotected skip.

It was decided that they had failed to ensure that no object was thrown or tipped from height, where it was liable to cause personal injury and for failing to ensure they would not fall.

They were fined a total of £1,000 at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on October 4th.

Falls from height accounted for 41 per cent of the total construction deaths in 2005-06, according to Health and Safety Executive statistics.
