Parents who claim that their daughter died as a result of clinical negligence are taking legal action, it has emerged.
During a recent inquest, it was ruled that Kathleen Doherty lost her life after a series of failures made by medical staff.
The 29-year-old had gone into the Royal Preston Hospital, which is situated in the Fulwood area of the town, to have a gallstone removal operation.
Soon afterwards, she died as a result of massive internal bleeding.
According to coroner Dr James Adeley, her death could have been prevented if doctors had checked her condition.
The late social worker's mother, Frances, had begged medical staff for help when her daughter complained of increasing stomach pains, headaches, sickness and feeling clammy.
She was told by a doctor, however, that he was too busy to perform a check.
Commenting after the inquest, Ms Doherty's brother Michael said: "Nothing will ever compensate [my mother and fathers'] loss of a daughter or mine of a sister and we are taking legal action to ensure that no other family has to endure the pain we have gone through," the Daily Mail reports.
