A former barrister who lost her job as a result of being too old has begun legal proceedings against her ex-employer.
Ethlyn Prince, who operated as an asylum support adjudicator for the Home Office, alleges she was sacked when her contract was changed without her consent.
She claims that the document was updated to include a clause which stated that her employment could not be extended as she was over the age of 65.
The 69-year-old, whose job it was to consider appeals lodged by asylum seekers who had had their requests to remain in the UK turned down, accuses officials of breaching her contract.
Dr Prince is suing the Home Office - which is the government department responsible for protecting the public against crime, anti-social behaviour and terrorism - and values her claim at more than £300,000, Argus Lite reports.
The Home Office is yet to issue a response.
