Disabled former employee wins compensation for injury to feelings

A disabled former worker for a charitable trust has secured a payout of nearly £10,000 for injury to her feelings, it has been revealed.

According to recent reports in the Hemel Gazette, Lynn Matthews had worked as a receptionist at Berkhamsted Sportspace - a registered charity which provides facilities such as a swimming pool, badminton courts and a toddler gym.

The 48-year-old mother of four suffers from repetitive strain injury and tenosynovitis.

As a result of her afflictions, she was forced to take three years off work on long-term sick leave between 2003 and 2006. She was subsequently sacked.

During a hearing in Watford, Ms Matthews was awarded £9,118 for the injury to her feelings she sustained on a number of occasions when she was said to have been treated unfavourably.

Commenting on the developments, she said: "It was very hard but it was never about the money. It was the principle of it. They made me out to be a liar and a shirker."

Meanwhile, Berkhamsted Sportspace is currently deciding whether to appeal the decision.
