Council worker awarded £6k for constructive dismissal

A former council manager has been awarded £6,000 in compensation after becoming depressed when a colleague would not communicate with him.

David Moxey, 52, was working as a lottery money manager for Aberdeen Council when he fell out with Maureen McMahon over grammatical corrections she made to one of his e-mails, the Daily Record reports.

As a result, Ms McMahon refused to talk to him and would only communicate through e-mail.

Mr Moxey told the tribunal that the deterioration of his relationship and the council's failure to deal with the problem led him to become depressed.

He was awarded the sum after the tribunal decided that he had been constructively and unfairly dismissed on the grounds that he had been given no option but to resign.

Tribunal chairman Nicol Hosie said: "We were entirely satisfied the one and only reason for him leaving was the ongoing difficulties which he was having with Ms McMahon and the council's failure to address them."
