Compensation has been won by the family of a man who lost his life as a result of a workplace accident.
In May 2003, Dean Thomas was crushed by a hydraulic lowering device whilst working inside the enclosure of a paper slitter-rewinder machine.
A workmate had accidentally pressed the wrong button.
His former employer J R Crompton had already been successfully prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in 2006.
In a new development, Mr Thomas' family secured a payout of £335,000 during a high court hearing in London.
"There is no way of bringing back my husband and the father of our two children but I am delighted that the court ruled that Dean was not in any way responsible for his death," his widow, Nicola, stated.
According to HSE figures, 241 workers were fatally injured in 2006-07, an increase of 11 per cent compared to the previous 12 months.
