Six former council employees, who were sacked after revealing evidence of drug and sex abuse, have received compensation in an out of court settlement.
The six whistleblowers were sacked in 2006, after going to the press with allegations about the welfare of children in homes run by Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.
Karen Allcock, Keith Bayliss, Vincent Felix, Doug Lafferty, Grant Morley and Clive Womersley, who took their case to the tribunal under the Public Interest Disclosure Act, did not have any previous blemishes on their employment records prior to being dismissed.
A statement from the council said: "WMDC recognises the management of the response to the concerns raised did not sufficiently reflect the expectations of the staff members and wishes to place on record its view that lessons have been learned from these regrettable events, with changes made to staff and procedures at all levels of its service."
The out-of-court settlement is believed to be around £1 million.
