A boy who suffers from cerebral palsy has won £4.2 million in compensation in a clinical negligence case, the Journal reports.
Colin Scott, who is now seven years old, developed the condition as a result of being starved of oxygen when he was born at Hexham General Hospital in 2001.
During a recent hearing at Newcastle crown court, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust - which employs more than 6,000 staff - agreed to pay the sum, which is intended to cover the costs of his future care requirements.
Following the result of the court case, a spokesperson for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust said: "The Trust wishes to apologise to the family and acknowledge the dedicated loving and devoted care that they are providing to Colin."
The spokesperson added that the trust hopes the money will "go some way" towards improving Colin's quality of life and securing his future.
