The widow of a man who died from the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma has received compensation of £200,000, it has been revealed.
According to reports in the Basingstoke Gazette, South Central Strategic Health Authority paid the sum in a settlement with Jenny Rattray.
Her late husband, James, had worked for the organisation as a joiner and carpenter for almost 30 years.
He died in April 2005 at the age of 64 a year after being diagnosed with cancer.
Earlier this year, the health authority admitted that Mr Rattray had been negligently exposed to asbestos - a substance which is associated with a range of illnesses, including asbestosis, mesothelioma, diffuse pleural thickening and lung cancer.
In a statement, the organisation said: "The health authority is pleased that agreement has been reached with the family of Mr Rattray in relation to a claim while he was working at Park Prewett Hospital in Basingstoke."
