Experience Overview
Simon is the Joint National Practice Group Leader of the Personal Injury Department and is also the Managing Partner of the Sheffield office. He heads the Occupational Disease Group within the Personal Injury Department. Simon's specialisation is in claimant personal injury. He is involved specifically in accidents at work, asbestos cases, multi-handed fume and VWF cases and post-traumatic stress cases.
He set up the firm's national Occupational Disease Group, which is the first of its kind in the UK, to research and develop knowledge of such illnesses. He also designed the firm’s systems for doing Employers Liability cases.
Simon is the national Partner for accidents at work, providing a monthly bulletin on developments in accident law.
According to Simon the most satisfying aspect of his work is obtaining damages for victims of accidents and illness, which hopefully improve their lives. The Legal 500 described the team led by Simon as 'Excellent.'
Simon is a member of many organisations including; the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Personal Injury Panel and the Sheffield Law Society. Alongside this, he is an assessor for the Personal Injury Panel, and a member of the Law Society Committee which produced the Personal Injury Pre-Action Protocol, and the Disease and Illness Protocol for the Lord Chancellors Department. Simon has received much praise in the most recent publication of Chambers and Partners, being ranked in Band One. It is commented that Simons "has the courage to take on awkward cases and run them through to a successful conclusion."
He has written for a number of law journals over the past 20 years. Simon is the co-author of the APIL Guide to Damages, and provides the Accidents at Work chapter for the Personal Injury Law Practice and Precedents book. He is on the editorial board of Kemp & Kemp PI Practice and Procedure, and amongst the chapters that he writes is the occupational illness chapter. Simon is a regular lecturer both internally and for a number of legal organisations, seeking to improve the knowledge of practitioners acting for injured people so that injured people receive good advice.

Injury Compensation for Treatments
When a patient has been injured by an insured person they may be entitled to an Initial Needs Assessment to assist with early treatment and recovery. Under the rehabilitation code solicitors have a duty to consider in consultation with the medical team whether there is an immediate need for additional mental health treatment, rehabilitation, drugs, aids, adaptations, adjustments to employment that would work to alleviate problems caused by injury.
