Experience Overview
Matthew has been with Russell Jones & Walker in the Sheffield office since January 1998. He qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and became Partner in 2009. He is now a Principal Lawyer (Partner) in our Personal Injury department in Sheffield.
He studied law at Sheffield Hallam University and completed his LPC at Huddersfield University. In November 2010 he was awarded the Young Achiever of the Year at the prestigious Personal Injury Awards 2010 ceremony. Please read our press release to find out more.
Matthew acts solely for injured claimants. He is the lead supervisor of the Employers Liability Fast Track team in Sheffield and supervises a total of 6 lawyers who deal solely with employers' liability claims. He often provides lectures to the firm's institutional client's/ health and safety representatives on safety in the workplace.
In addition, Matthew is the Head of the RJW Foreign RTA Department specialising in road traffic accidents which occur outside the UK.
Matthew is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APLIL) and the Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL).
His notable settlements to-date include:
1. Significant damages for the family of a cyclist killed in a road traffic accident in Spain.
2. Substantial damages from the CICA for the family of a police officer murdered during an armed robbery.
3. £400,000.00 for an abattoir worker who severed his sciatic nerve in an accident at work.
4. £400,000.00 for a steel worker who sustained a devastating foot injury whilst at work which led to a permanent disability and an inability to carry out any future manual work.
5. Significant damages for a number of crane drivers in a group action all of whom developed wrist injuries as a result of repetitive work.
6. £250,000.00 for a police officer who was medically retired from the force following a significant leg injury from a road traffic accident.
7. Substantial damages for a driver who sustained spinal injuries in a road traffic accident which resulted in medical retirement.
8. Six figure damages for a victim of a drunk driver who sustained a brachail plexus injury which severely restricted future employment prospects.
9. Significant damages for a steelworker who fell into an unguarded pit containing burning acid and sustained severe burns to 51% of his body.
