Experience Overview
Julie Morris is a Practice Group Leader in the Employment department, based in London.
Julie is experienced in all areas of employment law and has expertise in equal pay claims and discrimination cases involving senior executives and individuals. She has acted for numerous senior individuals including partners in City law firms and senior in-house lawyers, brokers, and senior executives in industry, investment banks and high street banks.
Julie has a particular interest in maternity issues and is a recognised authority in the field.
Notable cases
Julie acted for Hanan and Samira Fariad, in their extensively-reported claims for sex, race and religious discrimination against Tradition Securities and Futures SA, arguably London’s most high-profile City discrimination case to date.
Julie also acted in Sharp v Caledonia Group Services Ltd, a complex equal pay case in which the Employment Appeal Tribunal ruled that employers must properly and objectively justify any differences in pay.
Recently Julie successfully advised Tilern de Bique, a single parent from St Vincent serving in the British Army, in a groundbreaking sex and race discrimination case against the Ministry of Defence.
In November 2010 she successfully acted for one of the Defendants in the three week High Court trial Lonmar Global Risks Limited v West and Others, a major insurance industry team move case.
Julie is presently acting for the claimant in a high profile whistleblowing claim against the NHS, Chowdhury vs Ealing Hospital NHS Trust where the claimant was awarded a rare interim relief order securing her full pay, despite her dismissal, until the trial next year.
Career
Julie qualified in 1999 and began her career at Ashurst before joining Russell Jones & Walker in 2001. She was made a partner in 2004 and an Equity Partner in 2008.
Julie is a member and former chair of the Employment Lawyers Association pro bono committee and a member on the Employment Lawyers Association Training Committee, frequently lecturing on its behalf.
