Jeremy Summers is a Principal Lawyer (Partner), in the London office of the Business Crime & Regulation department and specialises in white collar crime with particular emphasis on corruption, fraud and financial regulation.
Admitted in England and Hong Kong he has extensive experience of litigating significant and high profile cases in both jurisdictions.
He acts for both individuals and companies and has recently been involved in high profile instructions including Innospec, Macmillan Publishing and Torex Retail.
Increasingly he is asked to provide bespoke compliance systems and training across a range of sectors to address the provisions of the Bribery Act 2010.
In the Legal 500 directory 2010, Jeremy is recommended and noted as giving ‘very good, solid advice in a supportive and professional manner’. Jeremy is identified in Chambers & Partners 2012 for his "enthusiastic" defence of clients interests against the SFO. While Chambers 2011 states that Jeremy 'speaks in a concise manner and is very responsive.'
Jeremy is the author of the chapters on Corruption and Funding in the Oxford University Press publication Fraud: Criminal Law and Procedure, and an author on confiscation and section editor for Butterworths Fraud: Law, Practice and Procedure.
He also regularly writes and is quoted by leading national and legal press in addition to being a regular conference speaker on the area.
Jeremy is on the legal panel for BBC News, ITN, Channel 4 News, Sky News and CNN and is frequently asked for expert comment on current issues by television, radio and the leading national press.
Business Crime & Regulation
In 2008 Jeremy acted for Balfour Beatty in connection with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina investigation that concluded with the ground breaking first use of new civil recovery powers. This work saw the firm nominated for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer award for 2009.
He is a member of the International Bar Association and the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association for whom he previously served as a committee member.
Professional Discipline & Regulation
Jeremy holds additional experience in Professional Discipline & Regulation and chairs disciplinary panels for the Rugby Football Union and the International Rugby Board. Jeremy has sat as the single Judicial Officer at IRB World Series 7's tournaments in London, Dubai and Hong Kong.
He is a member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL).
