Sexual, Physical Abuse Claims
Experts in Dealing with Sexual, Physical Abuse Claims
Bringing a sexual or physical abuse claim
Deciding whether to bring a sexual and/or physical abuse claim requires a solicitor with particular expertise in this area of the law as there are difficult issues relating to time limits, expert evidence, assessing compensation and so on. We consider ourselves to be particularly knowledgeable in this area of the law as well as having the ability to deal with you case sympathetically to cause the least possible distress during a process that we know will be very difficult for you.
We have experience in bringing claims against specific organisations, such as schools, care homes, charitable organisations, local authorities and the Church. We also have considerable experience in bringing claims against individual abusers or assailants. This is only possible however, where the defendant has sufficient funds to meet both the legal costs and compensation claim.
Our team is headed by Liz Dux, a personal injury partner with extensive experience in claims for physical and mental abuse arising out of both child and adult assaults. She is a patron of local Victim Support schemes, and regularly lectures for Victim Support on obtaining compensation for victims of crimes of violence.
She also regularly advises the Crossroads Women's Centre and Women Against Rape in their work in obtaining compensation for victims of sex abuse, assault and rape.
Liz is currently representing victims of sexual abuse arising out of the actions of two senior housemasters at St Paul’s Cathedral Choir school.
On 2nd March 2011 it was widely reported that Liz had managed to obtain a £30,000 settlement for a former pupil of St Paul's Cathedral Choir School. Alternatively, please read our press release for more information.
Time limits for bringing a sexual, physical child abuse claim
Often clients are worried that they have not decided to come forward soon enough. Whilst there are time limits there are circumstances in which claims can be brought outside the limitation period. Our specialist team will be able to advise you as to whether time limits will be an issue in your particular case. If there has been a recent prosecution of your assailant the Court is more likely to be sympathetic in extending the limitation period.
Will you have to go to Court?
Another, understandable, fear that our clients have about starting a sexual or physical abuse claim is having to face their attacker in Court. We understand these concerns and have experience in pursuing claims so as to preserve anonymity where necessary.
