Senior Trader made redundant after her return from maternity leave

31 March 2011

A senior trader at an investment bank approached us when she was made redundant within days of her return from maternity leave. Her redundancy took place during the height of the credit crunch. Because at the time her bank was making wave after wave of mass redundancies, and argued that under the circumstances our client's redundancy was totally genuine, our client's situation looked bleak.

To make matters worse, our client felt that she had been a victim of discrimination in relation to her most recent bonus and received less than her male peers. Faced with this situation we adopted a strategy of sending persistent requests to view documents relating to the bonuses of her male peers, and the bank's bonus practices. In the end our perseverance paid off and the bank agreed to mediation to settle the dispute. After careful negotiation at the mediation, we secured a highly satisfactory six-figure settlement for our client.
