Client suffers race discrimination at work raises grievance

We advised a client who worked in the construction industry who suffered from racial abuse at the hands of her employer. Our client raised a grievance in respect of this treatment.

Despite the company upholding our client's grievance and making a finding that racial abuse occurred, the company failed to take any action in response. Our client was subsequently placed on a performance review and selected for redundancy. We filed a claim in the Employment Tribunal on behalf of our client for unfair dismissal and race discrimination and, as a result, the company agreed to settle the matter at a level acceptable to our client.
