Why Can I Bring a DePuy Hip Claim?
In August 2010, DePuy Orthopaedics (a division of Johnson & Johnson) recalled two hip-replacement units: the ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System. According to DePuy, more than 10,000 patients in the UK received one of these two products implanted between 2003 and 2010.
A design flaw in these metal on metal replacements has led to some dangerous side effects. One is that metal particles can be released into a patient’s bloodstream, causing reactions such as swelling due to build-up of fluid. In addition, the metal cap attached to the femur can come loose, resulting in a bone fracture or dislocation of the ball from the socket.
Bringing a DePuy Hip Claim
We are already representing a number of clients who are now suffering from swelling, pain, skin rashes and difficulty walking due to their faulty hip replacement. For some patients, the severe side effects result in the need for a second surgery to remove and replace the faulty ASR device.
What Should You Do Next?
Some DePuy ASR patients have already received a letter advising them of the make and model of their hip. If you have received such a letter and want further advice then please contact us. You may be eligible to compensation.
Other patients have not been advised that they have a DePuy ASR hip and may be suffering in silence. If you have suffered with painful symptoms as described above we strongly advise you to contact your surgeon or seek a referral back to your NHS hospital

DePuy Hips - Nisha Sharmas case
Nisha Sharmas DePuy Hips case concerning a 75 year old woman who suffered years of pain from a faulty hip replacement features on the Rugby & Lutterwoth Observer online. Eileen Lloyd was given a metal hip joint made by DePuy in October 2008, and suffered extreme pain - it later emerged that she had been given a faulty hip.
Nisha says “Some DePuy patients like Eileen have already received letters advising them of the make and model of their hip, but there are still many patients who have no idea about the issue. I would advise anyone who thinks they have a DePuy hip to get in touch with their surgeon or GP straight away."
