Experts in E.Coli Poisoning Claims

If you or a family member has been affected by E.Coli you may be able to bring a claim for compensation.  Godstone Farm E.Coli Cases:  RJW has been instructed in a number of E.Coli cases from the outbreak in Godstone Farm, Surrey.

Richard Geraghty, one of our expert solicitors, comments on the Godstone Farm outbreak:

"The farm has a duty to take reasonable care to ensure that its premises are safe. E.coli can be caused by contact with animals and is a known risk associated with petting zoos and farms.  Farms, such as Godstone, should have in place adequate precautions to prevent outbreaks. Measures such as hand washing facilities and preventing exposure to animal faeces should be taken.

When cases of E.Coli occur in these places the farms are required to report them. Here, clearly, there are issues about when the first cases were reported to the Health Protection Agency and the subsequent advice given to the farm. It seems that several cases had been identified some time before the farm was closed to the public."

Damages can be paid for pain and suffering caused by the illness and any losses, expenses, care or medical treatment needed.

In some cases E.Coli can cause serious, lasting effects. One previous case saw £2.6million paid to a child who suffered brain injury as a result of suffering with E.Coli poisoning.  If you suspect you have been infected it is important to speak to your GP as soon as possible.
