RJW Partners Shortlisted For Prestigious Industry Awards

15 October 2010

Leading national personal injury and group litigation specialists Russell Jones & Walker are celebrating as two of its partners have been shortlisted in the 2010 Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards.

Richard Langton and Matthew Tomlinson have been announced as contenders in the PI Lawyer of the Year and Young Lawyer of the Year categories respectively, following a high-profile year for the firm.

Based at RJW’s Birmingham office, Richard Langton has spearheaded several significant cases over the last 12 months, including driving the toxic sofas cases for lead litigator RJW, which is the largest consumer group litigation in legal history. His campaigning work on behalf of the family of Cerys Edwards resulted in a meeting with Jack Straw MP and a change in sentencing and Richard also leads the Maclaren buggies cases, another ongoing group action.

Nominated for Young Lawyer of the Year, Matthew Tomlinson of RJW Sheffield has been praised for his rapid rise through the firm to date and innovation, most recently launching a dedicated Foreign Claims department within the firm’s RTA unit.

RJW Joint Head of Department for Personal Injury, Simon Allen, said: “The last 12 months have seen an unprecedented level of high-profile cases for RJW and all of our teams have worked incredibly hard to resolve these for claimants across the UK. Personal injury is our specialism and we are proud to be able to nurture young talent like Matthew and draw on the expertise of dynamic group litigators like Richard, who have enabled us to lead the field with record-breaking cases that highlight best practice. Events like this are a great opportunity to unite the sector and acknowledge great results that we hope will lead to a wider recognition of professional standards both within our industry and from consumers.”

Now in its third year, the awards celebrate the excellence of individuals and organisations across the whole of the personal injury claims sector and have been welcomed by the industry for their role in bridging the traditional partisan ‘claimant/defendant’ divide. Organised by Barker Brooks Media, the awards are supported by an eminent panel of judges including Hilary Meredith of Hilary Meredith Solicitors, Anthony Hughes of Horwich Farrelly Solicitors, Denise Kitchener of APIL, Michael Redfern QC, Anita Noce of DWF LLP and Lord Brennan.

The winners will be revealed at a prestigious ceremony and dinner, hosted by Have I Got News For You and QI comedian Fred MacAulay, attended by 400 PI professionals at The Millennium Mayfair Hotel, Grosvenor Square on 18th November.
