Paul Kitson: An Afternoon with Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group
4 April 2011
Last week I attended a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group (I am a corporate member). The special guests were Dave Brailsford, Team GB High Performance Director, Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.
The trio answered questions about their hopes for the London 2012 Olympics and also fielded questions about the recent Track World Championships in Apeldoorn.
Dave Brailsford commented that the weight of expectation is now extremely high and it is unrealistic to expect a bumper haul of medals from every championship. Dave Brailsford admitted that Sir Chris Hoy and Vicky Pendleton were below their best but the trio had confidence about the prospects of Team GB for the 2012 Olympics. Dave Brailsford was particularly encouraged by the performance of the more recent additions to Team GB.
Yesterday’s event has certainly whetted my appetite for the Olympics. If you have not already submitted your application for tickets at the Velodrome, remember the application must be submitted by 11.59pm on the 26th April.
