James Bell: Weekend worry for NHS patients

A study by the Royal Society of Medicine reveals that patients are 16% more likely to die if they are admitted at the weekend. This backs up the general views of clinical negligence lawyers and coroners over recent years.
This is a definitive study - 14.2 million patients.
The question now is how senior staff react to this and whether the NHS is genuinely prepared to change years of culture and now offer an effective weekend service.
