Employment tribunal of sacked nurse underway

10 March 2010

An employment tribunal centred on allegations made by a nurse who was sacked from his position in 2008 is underway.

Yunus Bakhsh was dismissed from his post at Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust over allegations of bullying, Socialistworker.co.uk reports.

However, he claims that the action was racially motivated and he is seeking compensation from the organisation, which employs a total of more than 7,000 workers and serves a population of around 1.4 million.

During the ongoing hearing, evidence emerged suggesting there may have been discrepancies in a letter which was used as evidence against Mr Bakhsh.

Human relations manager at the trust Liz Latham said that until this week she was unaware of the problems with the correspondence.

The letter had been stamped as being received by the body on September 28th 2004, which was two years before it was recorded as arriving.

Also, the stamp that was used was for a trust that had ceased to exist in April 2006, before the complaint was filed.
