Employers 'should have more protection against grievance hearings'

Employers facing grievance hearings from disgruntled members of staff should be given more protection legally, an expert has said.
According to Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, companies now require greater levels of shielding than ever in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.
"It is important that they have that right to defend themselves and to demonstrate what they have done to minimise the risk to both themselves and to the public, other businesses et cetera," he commented.
Mr Huxham was speaking after the publication of research by the Law Commission last week (August 25th) which stated that courts should be given the power to apply a due diligence defence to statutes that would otherwise impose strict liability.
The Recruitment Society official added that the post-recession period is a time where more caution and security measures need to be in place in order for firms in the UK to be able to protect themselves.
