Cricketer takes club to employment tribunal

A professional cricketer is taking his ex-club to an employment tribunal on the grounds of unfair dismissal, it has emerged.

Chris Taylor is seeking damages from Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) after the organisation did not offer him a new contract following the expiration of his previous deal last September.

The 35-year-old batsman - who made a century on his debut at Lord's in 2000 - has been with GCCC since 1999 and was told whether or not he received a fresh contract was dependent on if the club was granted permission to redevelop their stadium.

This application was subsequently rejected by the council - leaving Taylor unattached - and the professional has now decided to sue his former employer.

Club chief executive Tom Richardson confirmed the case had gone to a tribunal and commented: "We would like to thank Chris very much for his years of service as both player and, more recently, fielding coach, and wish him all the best for the future."
