Work experience

If you're thinking about a career in law, there's no better way to gain an insight than a work experience placement, and you won't do better than a placement with Russell Jones & Walker, a national top 100 law firm with a great reputation.

We aim to offer work experience throughout the year. However, as we cannot guarantee the availability of a supervisor, we are unable to offer a dedicated scheme. Nonetheless, we are always interested to hear from those attracted to our Firm.

Please feel free to send through your CV with a covering letter explaining the type of experience you are looking for, as well as the duration, preferred office and dates you are available. We will keep your application on file for 6 months and contact you if a suitable position arises.

Speculative applications can be sent through to our recruitment team by email at recruitment@rjw.co.uk or by post. Placements take place in all of our nine offices, but are usually held in London, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham and Cardiff.

Our placements offer a taster of work in the legal world; it is the ideal way to test your suitability for a future legal career or to enhance your CV for the competitive job market. Placements usually last 1-2 weeks, and are available for all levels from secondary school to post-law school.

During your time with Russell Jones & Walker you will have the opportunity to assist lawyers in different practice areas, each handling a range of work types. You will gain experience of law in practice. For example, you could get involved in any of the following:

• shadowing fee-earners
• attending courts and meetings
• drafting documents

We also offer opportunities in our business support functions, such as within our marketing and finance teams. These offer a first-hand insight into the running of a highly successful business. Please check our career pages for any specific opportunities.

In addition, we are occasionally able to offer undergraduate placement schemes of 40 weeks minimum duration. They will be advertised on our website as soon as they become available.
