Our history

The origins of the firm date back more than 70 years to the 1920s when Arthur Russell Jones, a young lawyer returning from the First World War, was appointed as solicitor to the British Iron Steel and Kindred Trades Association, later to become The Iron and Steel Trades Confederation.

Russell Jones quickly established a formidable reputation as a personal injury lawyer, achieving compensation for steelworkers and their families in cases of death and injury during the dangerous working conditions of the time. His success led Russell Jones to establish a private practice at Swinton House, Gray's Inn Road, London in 1926.

John Walker joined Russell Jones' practice as an article clerk. He too was quick to establish himself as a tenacious advocate of individuals' rights and was admitted to the firm as a partner in 1936.

On his return from World War Two, Walker bought into a full partnership in the practice leading to the establishment of Russell Jones & Walker in 1946.

Since its foundation the firm has seen many changes. However, the principle that guided Arthur Russell Jones and John Walker still remains; to be the best national firm servicing the legal needs of individual people and those who represent them.
